68 6.5-tonne double deck scissor lifts to service Boots UK’s fleet of 240 fixed double deck trailers across all UK and Eire DC’s
Boots is the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, with over 2,500 stores in the UK. The company, which is part of the Walgreens Boots Alliance group, operates an extensive logistics network, with over 8,500 deliveries to stores per week. It employs over 54,000 colleagues throughout the UK.
In order to convert its entire trunking fleet to fixed double deck trailers, Boots asked Transdek to site survey every DC across the UK and Ireland. A total of 68 double deck scissor lifts were installed over a 3-year period. Transdek also engineered bespoke warehouse modifications to ensure vehicle accessibility and efficient loading at each site.
Boots has converted all of its trunking trailers to fixed double deckers, saving a total of 14m road miles p.a. Its first 110 trailers saved 3.1m miles and 4.7m kg of CO2 a year, helping Boots to meet its CSR objectives. 26 of the modular lifts have since been relocated (in as little as 2 days) in line with Boots’ logistics restructuring strategy.
