DFS Group is the UK’s leading sofa retail specialist, with over 124 showrooms in the UK, Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands and Spain. The company, which has manufactured and sold upholstered furniture in the UK since 1969, employs over 5,500 staff. DFS has 20 regional Customer Distribution Centres UK-wide.
DFS wanted to improve safety and efficiency, where loaders were manually handling suites on and off vehicles at level-access bays. Transdek designed a modular, surface-mounted (no pits/civils), BS5950-1:2000-conformed, multi-bay warehouse extension/ loading lobby for each site, with sound-reduction flooring, dock levellers to facilitate seamless product flows – and an internal dock lift.
Each modular superstructure was clad and sealed to the main warehouse to provide a sealed and secure transit lobby. Staff can now wheel furniture racks straight in to the back of vehicles, which has reduced manual handling and speeded up loading. Operator safety is improved with a weather-proof environment, and reduced manual work and working at height.
