Matalan is a leading UK and international omni-channel clothing and homeware retailer. Founded in 1985, in 2019 the company employed over 13,000 people, operated 230 stores in the UK, turned over £1.1 billion, and was experiencing 15% growth in online sales.
Transdek was asked to fit three 3-metre dock levellers at Matalan’s Knowsley DC in order to expand loading capability on the home delivery side of the business, following sustained growth in online sales. The dock levellers were fitted alongside two Transdek double deck lifts, as part of a wider programme to enhance logistics efficiencies.
The three dock levellers were supplied as modular, surface-mounted loadhouse pods. Each pod unit was sealed to the warehouse front to provide fast, seamless loading between the 900mm docks and variable vehicle heights, including single deck artics and home delivery vehicles. The entire project was completed in two days.
