Working together with the RNN College Group, Hörmann Transdek have introduced an apprenticeship scheme to train and educate the next generation of manufacturing mechanical engineers, whilst providing young people with valuable real-life experience in the workplace.

The first two apprentices Chris Hilbert and Harry O’Brien, joined Hörmann Transdek in  September 2023, and are working towards the Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Operative apprenticeship standard.  They have committed to spending 3 years on the scheme, splitting their time between studying at college for their academic qualification and working on-site with their mentors Brett Gray, Production Manager and Rob Wright, Welding Supervisor.

Crystal Staniland, Human Resources Manager at Hörmann Transdek comments,

“Borne from our investment planning and a recognised need for up-skilling, a full training needs analysis was undertaken in November 2022.  This identified a requirement for different skills within the business as well as upskilling our current workforce and investing in training for succession planning.

As part of our long-term strategy to grow talent from within and to create opportunities for new talent our apprenticeship scheme has been developed which enables us to offer young people the opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable, experienced staff and acquire job-specific skills. It will help us to expand our skilled teams with operatives who are equipped with an extensive understanding of the market and have been trained by us in the skills necessary to ensure that our manufacturing capability remains state-of-the-art.

Chris and Harry are the first of our apprentices who have been recruited to work within our manufacturing team with further schemes being developed and introduced later in 2024 for other departments within the company.”

Chris Ryan, Account Manager at RNN College Group, added “RNN College Group are delighted to embark on this partnership with Hörmann Transdek to educate a series of well-trained manufacturing mechanical engineers. We are confident this will be a fortuitous and long-term success.

We have taken steps to align our educational offering to the needs of Hörmann Transdek creating a truly integrated learning approach so that both Chris and Harry can be involved in the latest methods and most advanced technology throughout the industrial market”.
